Who this is for

Gum Treatment may be appropriate if you:

  • Experience bleeding when brushing or flossing

  • Have swollen, tender, or inflamed gums

  • Notice persistent bad breath

  • Feel that something doesn't feel right with your gums

  • Have been told you have gum disease or inflammation

The objective

The aim of Gum Treatment is to reduce gum inflammation, remove harmful bacterial build-up from below the gum line where present, and stabilise the gum tissues.

The focus is on restoring health and stability, supporting the mouth's natural protective barrier rather than simply cleaning.

Healthy gums should not bleed easily. If bleeding, swelling, or persistent bad breath are present, these are signs that need proper assessment and care.

How Gum Treatment works

Non-surgical treatment

Harmful bacterial deposits are gently removed from below the gum line where present, commonly without surgical intervention.

Comfort-focused care

Local anaesthetic is used as standard to ensure comfort. Most patients do not feel discomfort during the procedure.

Methodical delivery

Care is delivered calmly and methodically, with each stage planned around your individual needs.

Treatment course

Gum Treatment is delivered over a structured course of appointments to allow the gum tissues time to respond and heal.

  • Care is usually delivered over two to four appointments, depending on the extent of inflammation

  • Each visit builds on the previous one to support healing and tissue stability

  • Progress is reviewed throughout treatment

A whole-body view of gum health

Inflamed gums can compromise the natural barrier between the mouth and the rest of the body. This may allow bacteria and inflammatory signals greater access beyond the mouth.

For this reason, we consider both local and wider influences on healing.

Where appropriate, this may include discussion of nutritional or health factors, often assessed as part of a Biological Foundations consultation.

Ongoing maintenance

After initial treatment, maintenance is essential to maintain gum stability.

  • Most patients are reviewed two to four times per year, depending on individual needs

  • These visits focus on monitoring, prevention, and long-term support

Where appropriate, maintenance can be arranged within our membership plans.

Supportive therapies

In selected cases, supportive tools may be used alongside mechanical treatment.

Ozone therapy

Microbiome testing

Nutrition testing

Alkaline serums

In some cases, microbiome testing may be used before and after treatment to assess changes and guide ongoing care.
