Who this is for

Sedation is most commonly used for treatments such as:

  • Biological Tooth Removal

  • Wisdom Tooth Removal

  • Ceramic Implant placement

  • Some more extensive restorative procedures

Sedation is not suitable for everyone, but for many anxious patients it can make necessary dental treatment feel far more manageable.

How sedation works

In practical terms, a calming medication is given through a small line in your arm by a dedicated member of our team, while your dentist focuses on the procedure.

You remain responsive to simple instructions, but most people feel distant from what is happening and often remember little of the appointment afterwards.

For those who wish, we can also play relaxing music during treatment to help create a calm, comfortable environment.

When sedation may be used

After treatment, you will remain with us for a short period for initial recovery.

  • You will need to leave with a responsible adult who can take you home

  • You must not drive, work, or operate machinery for the rest of the day

  • These are standard precautions related to the medication used

Assessment and safety

Before offering sedation, we always carry out a full assessment as part of a Biological Foundations consultation.

This allows us to understand your dental needs, medical history, and any medications you are taking, and to confirm that sedation is an appropriate and safe option for you.

Discussed in advance

If you feel you would struggle with treatment while fully awake and would like to explore IV sedation, arrange a consultation and we can discuss whether it may be appropriate for you.
