When this is appropriate

Conventional bridges replace one or more missing teeth using prepared supporting teeth on either side of the gap. A replacement tooth (or teeth) is fixed between the supporting teeth, restoring chewing function, comfort, and appearance.

Bridges are typically made from metal-ceramic or all-ceramic materials and are designed to provide a durable, fixed solution where appropriate.

Who this is for

At N1 Dental, conventional bridges are not usually our first-line option where neighbouring teeth are intact. They may be appropriate when:

  • Replacing an existing bridge that is failing, uncomfortable, or no longer functioning well

  • A similar bridge design has already been used and remains the most appropriate choice

  • Alternative options are not suitable following careful assessment

Where neighbouring teeth are largely healthy, we will often first consider alternatives such as a Tooth Kind Bridge, a comfortable denture, or a dental implant, as these may help preserve more natural tooth structure.

How conventional bridges work

Conventional bridges use specially prepared supporting teeth on either side of a gap to hold a replacement tooth or teeth in place.

At N1 Dental, they are most commonly used to replace existing bridges that are failing or in situations where a similar design remains the most appropriate choice after careful assessment.

All materials used are selected for durability, biocompatibility, and a natural appearance.

What to expect

Treatment is usually completed over two main visits.

  • First visit: any existing bridge is removed where present, supporting teeth are carefully prepared, and digital scans or impressions are taken before a temporary bridge is placed

  • Second visit: the custom bridge is fitted, bite and comfort are adjusted, and the bridge is bonded into place

  • Local anaesthesia is used for comfort throughout

Materials and design

Conventional bridges at N1 Dental are available in metal-free zirconia or lithium disilicate options.

Material choice is discussed based on bite forces, aesthetic needs, existing restorations, and long-term durability.

The aim is to select the most appropriate material for each individual situation, balancing strength, appearance, and tissue compatibility.

Assessment and planning

All bridge options are considered following a Biological Foundations consultation.

Assessment includes supporting teeth, bite and jaw function, gum health, and overall oral health.

Recommendations are made based on suitability, not routine.

Fees

Conventional bridges

£2,995–£4,995

Fees depend on design, materials, and complexity. Exact costs are confirmed following assessment.

If you have an older bridge that is failing or you've been advised that a bridge may need replacing, a Conventional Bridge may be appropriate.
