A conventional crown (ceramic) is a full-coverage restoration designed to protect and rebuild a tooth that has lost significant structure. It replaces the visible portion of the tooth with a custom-made ceramic shell, restoring comfort, function, and appearance.
A conventional crown may be appropriate when:
A tooth has been significantly broken down by decay, fracture, or previous treatment
An existing crown needs replacing
Root canal therapy has been completed and the tooth requires protection
A metal-free, biocompatible restoration is preferred
Ceramic crowns are full-coverage restorations, usually completed over two visits.
At N1 Dental, they are most commonly used to replace existing crowns that are failing, uncomfortable, or no longer fitting well. They may also be used where a tooth has already been heavily restored and requires full coverage for protection and stability.
All materials used are metal-free, mercury-free, and BPA-free.
Treatment is carried out over two appointments, typically two to three weeks apart.
First appointment: preparation, impressions, and temporary crown placement where appropriate
Second appointment: fitting and bonding the final crown
Local anaesthesia is used in most cases for comfort
Conventional crowns at N1 Dental are fabricated from metal-free ceramics including zirconia and lithium disilicate, chosen for biocompatibility, durability, and natural translucency.
Bonding and cementation protocols are designed to support long-term stability and tissue health.
We offer two distinct crown approaches depending on how much natural tooth remains and what is clinically appropriate.
For uncrowned teeth, enamel is removed to create space for the ceramic crown
Often appropriate when replacing existing crowns
Commonly used where teeth have already undergone significant treatment
Typically completed over two visits
Designed to preserve more remaining natural tooth structure where appropriate
A more conservative approach in suitable cases
Can be considered when the priority is protecting remaining tooth structure
Often completed in a single visit, depending on the situation
Your clinician will advise on the most appropriate option based on your tooth structure, history, and clinical findings.
